Calgary Flames head coach Darryl Sutter has come under fire and, following last night’s 5-1 loss at the hands of the Chicago Blackhawks, the fanbase has had enough and got the bench boss trending on social media. Because they want him out.
Sutter was trending after the Flames fell to the 31st place- Blackhawks and fell out of playoff contention, now under the Colorado Avalanche holding the last Wild-card spot in the Western conference. Fans got on Twitter and demanded that not only Sutter be fired by the Flames, but that the team gets on the phone right away to replace him with Bruce Boudreau.
Boudreau’s final days with the Vancouver Canucks were dragged out longer than anyone would have hoped, but he got the final boot on Sunday and was replaced by Rick Tocchet.
Talks of Sutter being on the hot seat in Calgary recently, especially when Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman mentioned that the biggest issue might be the head coach himself. It became clear that Sutter’s tough love approach might be getting out of hand over the weekend when, asked about rookie Jakob Pelletier’s NHL debut on Saturday’s game against the Tampa Bay Lightning, Sutter was immensely disrespectful to the young player. It prompted Friedman to explain how the head coach and his approach have brought down the players in Calgary.
The seat is getting hotter for Sutter. Do you think it's time for the Flames and the veteran head coach to part ways? What about Boudreau talking over in Calgary?
