Evgeni Malkin posts perfect story on Instagram for Phil Kessel!

The Pittsburgh Penguins didn’t take part in the postseason this time around and the fact that they failed to clinch a playoff spot allowed the Florida Panthers to grab that last spot and make it all the way to the Stanley Cup final.

Though the Penguins were out of it, it looks like star forward Evgeni Malkin was rooting for his friend Phil Kessel. When the veteran forward finally hoisted the Cup, their third in his NHL career, Geno posted this funny work of art on his Instagram story of his buddy.

Kessel will now be referred to as a three-time Stanley Cup champion, after he won his first two Stanley Cup rings with Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2016 and 2017.

In four games in the Jets series, Kessel posted two assists and a plus-minus of plus-2. But he was mentioned more than once by his teammates as an important member of the team, keeping things light and entertaining the rest of the roster during the demanding run towards the championship.

He is such a great teammate that even a former one like Malkin is happy for Kessel to be champion again.
