Evander Kane shares a hot take on last night's explosive game.
Canadian forward Evander Kane had some interesting thoughts to share on the crazy start between Canada and USA.
The National Hockey League may not be thrilled to hear this kind of talk coming from one of their own players, but I suspect there are a great many hockey fans who will find themselves in alignment with some of the opinions we're about to look at.
On Saturday night, we were treated to one of the most exciting hockey games in years when Team Canada and Team USA clashed at the Four Nations Face-Off. A huge part of that excitement stemmed from the explosive start to the contest, one that saw 3 fights break out in the opening 9 seconds of the game, with fighting rarely seen during international competitions.
In fact fighting has become less and less common in the National Hockey League over the years as well with a clear effort from the league to curb the amount of fights that occur, but it would seem that not everyone believes that is the best direction in which to take the sport of hockey.
After the explosive start to the game on Saturday night Canadian forward Evander Kane, who is currently sidelined due to injury, made it clear that he believes that type of spectacle is exactly how the NHL should be marketing their game.
"I must say, that first 10 mins 👏 is how you sell the game," wrote Kane. "And some of you want to get rid of fighting. Great start."
Former NHL enforcer Chris 'Knuckles' Nilan echoed Kane's comments while also poking a little fun at the National Basketball Association in the proces.
"Oh my God I don’t know if I can watch U.S. vs Canada the fighting and violence just makes me want to watch basketball," wrote a very sarcastic Nilan.
Even Canadian head coach Jon Cooper seemed to express his support for the spectacle to start the game. When asked if he felt fighting belonged in the game, Cooper left little doubt about his feelings on the matter.
"I didn’t see anybody running for the exits," said Cooper.
There's no question that there was a tremendous level of hype around the event with the 3 fights to start the game only adding to that hype, and as a result I have seen reactions from across the sporting world to last night's incredible game between Canada and USA.
