Elliotte Friedman throws cold water on Detroit fans hoping for Alex DeBrincat

Talk about a major bummer in Detroit.

It looks as though everyone who was hoping to see Farmington Hills, Michigan native Alex DeBrincat return home to play for his hometown Detroit Red Wings will not be getting their wish after all.

According to NHL analyst Elliotte Friedman, it's looking more and more that despite his earlier contention, a deal will not get done between Red Wings GM Steve Yzerman and Senators GM Pierre Dorian.

"We talked about DeBrincat and our default that it was Detroit, I don't think so anymore, as I was leaving the draft on Thursday I was getting a lot of people telling they didn't think it was going to work with Detroit," Friedman said on the 32 Thoughts podcast.

He continued:

"I think Anaheim had looked in, but I was told not likely, I heard Anaheim was interested though. I know the Islanders have checked in and they've got room now, Islanders have room for a Tarasenko or DeBrincat or whatever they want to do there. I've wondered about Washington too, can DeBrincat and Ovechkin both work together on the power play? Dallas doesn't have a lot of room but someone said to me Jim Nill is a creative guy, if Jim Nill and the Dallas Stars want DeBrincat, they're going to find out a way to do that."

The most pressing need for the Red Wings is a player who is known for scoring goals, and it's looking as though this year's team will be even more starved for offense, considering that both Tyler Bertuzzi and Jakub Vrana are now no longer members of the team.

In 450 career NHL games, DeBrincat has scored 187 goals to go with 373 career points.
