Eastern conference after Milan Lucic’s services on the trade market!?

Will the Flames entertain this potential offer?

Earlier this week, Larry Brooks of the New York Post wondered if the Rangers were stepping out of the Patrick Kane sweepstakes, seeing that the Chicago Blackhawks star forward may not be what is needed in the Big Apple to ensure a long playoff run.

In the same analysis, Brooks suggested that the Rangers target different forwards on the market and listed Calgary Flames veteran Milan Lucic as an option.

“I wonder whether Milan Lucic, if available and on an expiring contract, has enough left to be a menacing fourth-line agitator?”

While Brooks also talks about St. Louis Blues’ Vladimir Tarasenko or names potential other fits in Tyler Bertuzzi, Tyler Motte, Ivan Barbashev and Nick Bjugstad as options to add depth up front, you have to admit that Lucic is the most intriguing.

The Rangers lost a lot of grit and physicality when they shipped Ryan Reaves out to the Minnesota Wild and might want that added leadership for the playoffs.

While the Blue Shirts would likely prefer an affordable bait for depth up front, Lucic is currently in the last season of his seven-year, $42 million contract. He however has a base salary of $1M, but would need to submit a list of 8 teams he can be traded to. I don’t see why the Rangers would not be in there.

Let’s see what happens with this suggestion for Brooks in New York City.
