We are still waiting to see whether the Vegas Golden Knights or the Florida Panthers will be crowned Stanley Cup champions this season, but some insiders are already taking a stab at predicting which two teams will battle it out in the Final almost exactly a year from now.On Friday’s episode of Daily Faceoff Live, Frank Seravalli and Mike McKenna made their picks for next year’s Stanley Cup champion, choosing a team from each conference.
And it looks like we will have a rematch of the 2006 Final. McKenna chose to Carolina Hurricanes to win it all:
“I actually think the Hurricanes, though, that’s a solid club that knows the moves they need to make this off-season to make that team even better. I think they’re in a position to be really good next season, so I’ll take a flyer and go with the Hurricanes.”
“I think the Edmonton Oilers are gonna be the betting favorite when the odds come out. Crazy?, asked Seravalli.
“Obviously, the betting window, they liked the Oilers coming in and they were a favorite in Round 2 against the Golden Knights. Didn’t come together for them but I think they’re going to be well-featured on that odds board whenever it comes out.”
This would mean the Oilers and Hurricanes would face off, once again in a Stanley Cup final, a rematch of 2006 when the Canes won the first championship in franchise history with Rod Brind’Amour in their lineup.
