Dubas' first trade for the Penguins could be monstrous.

There has been a ton of excitement in Pittsburgh around the organization's new president of hockey operations Kyle Dubas, and for good reason. Dubas is regarded by many to be among the top young minds in the sport of hockey and that reputation is no doubt what resulted in the Penguins, and their owners Fenway Sports Group, putting the full court press to bring in Dubas after he was fired by the Toronto Maple Leafs.

It is still far too early to tell, and likely will be for many years, whether or not Dubas' tenure in Pittsburgh will be a successful one, but it sounds like he may intend to start things off with a bang.

Over the course of the past few days a number of Penguins insiders have indicated their belief that the Penguins should be targeting Winnipeg Jets star goaltender Connor Hellebuyck, presumably in an effort to give the Penguins core of Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin and Kris Letang a chance to compete for a Stanley Cup once again.

Rob Rossi and Josh Yohe of The Athletic made their pitch for a blockbuster trade in the offseason:

It’s been a half-decade since they’ve played with a dependable goalie. Hellebuyck is better than dependable. The Penguins don’t have much in the way of assets, but it would be worth all of them to land Hellebuyck.

Pittsburgh Hockey Now's Dan Kingerski believes a big move is forthcoming from Dubas and the Penguins, and he also made it clear where he thinks that is most likely to occur:

Winnipeg, however, might be the first stop on my research tour.

This would of course necessitate moving on from veteran goaltender Tristan Jarry who is set to be an unrestricted free agent this summer, but it would represent a significant upgrade at the goaltending position for the Penguins.
