It’s been well-known around the National Hockey League that the Edmonton Oilers are shopping for an upgrade on their back end, looking for a quality defenseman on the market. However, general manager Ken Holland is said to also be keeping an eye on the acquisition of boost up front for his roster, which has prompted rumours that Edmonton could be looking to pull off a double trade with another Pacific division club and score twice on the market for added depth in front.

According to Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman, the Oilers have already been linked to Anaheim Ducks veteran forward Adam Henrique, and could still around to shop for added depth up front in his teammate Sam Carrick. The insider believes a double deal could take place ahead of Friday’s trade deadline, especially since there is a feeling that Warren Foegele has become a trade candidate in Edmonton.

Henrique’s name been mentioned in trade rumours, linking him to rival teams like the Boston Bruins, New York Rangers and Oilers as the 34-year-old has been looking to impress contenders in order to facilitate a trade and get a shot at the championship.

It has been reported that the Ducks are seeking a second- and third-round picks, plus another third-round pick to retain half of Henrique’s salary. If the Oilers are serious about acquiring Henrique, they would need a third team to come in as a broker to take part of his salary cap hit of $5.825 million in order to fit him on the roster in Edmonton. Or the Ducks might have to retain half of his salary to facilitate a trade.

On Wednesday, Pierre LeBrun reported that talks are heating up between Edmonton and Anaheim on Henrique.

Something could be worked out between the two division rivals, if Carrick gets involved in the mix. His cap hit is only $850,000 and he could benefit from a change of scenery. He has only scored eight goals this season, but could bring added energy to the Oilers’ offense.

There is no doubt that GM Holland will be busy ahead of Friday’s deadline, as Edmonton has already been linked to not only Henrique and Carrick, but also Pittsburgh Penguins’ Jake Guentzel and Ottawa Senators’ Vladimir Tarasenko, among others.
