Connor McDavid delivers vicious crosscheck to the head of Conor Garland.
Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid could face a potential suspension for this one.
Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid may have landed himself in some hot water last night after he crossed the line in the final seconds of the third period.
McDavid and the Oilers faced off against Canadian rivals the Vancouver Canucks on Saturday night and it would be during the final moments of that game that Canucks forward Conor Garland would get under McDavid's skin and cause him to go overboard.
McDavid and the Oilers were trying to rally back from a one goal deficit when Garland decided to engage in an impromptu wrestling match with McDavid in the Canucks zone, wrestling with McDavid and pinning him to the ice for what felt like a very long time as the clock ran down in the game. Somehow these actions from Garland went uncalled by the officials on the ice, causing McDavid to dish out his own version of punishment on Garland.
As the two men rose back to their feet, McDavid would load up for a nasty cross-check to the head of Garland, catching him right across the face as he drove his stick into the head of his opponent. Garland looked furious at the blow and it was enough to earn McDavid a match penalty from the officials on the ice.
Here's a look at how it all happened:
And here is an isolated look at McDavid and Garland on the replay:
It will be very interesting to see if the National Hockey League's Department of Player Safety will get involved here.
