Devastating update on goaltender Anton Forsberg.

A truly horrible update.

Jonathan Larivee

It's hard to imagine how this could have turned out any worse for goaltender Anton Forsberg and his team, the Ottawa Senators.

On Saturday night, Forsberg suffered a pretty serious looking injury when Edmonton Oilers forward Zach Hyman was shoved into the Senators goaltender by Forsberg's own teammate, defenseman Travis Hamonic. It was an incredibly ill-advised decision on the part of Hamonic, and now we know just how bad of a decision it was.

For those of you who didn't see it live, here's a replay of the incident:

According to a stunning report from Ian Mendes of The Athletic, Forsberg is now likely done for the season due to the fact that he has suffered serious injuries in both of his knees. Mendes is reporting that it is an MCL tear in both Forsberg's left and right knee, which is obviously a horrible bit of news for a goaltender.

Given that the Senators are well out of playoff contention, I suspect that they will give Forsberg all of the time needed to recover in the hopes that he can return healthy and play out the remaining 2 years on his contract.

Of course the biggest concern in a situation where such a serious series of injuries have occurred is the long term ramifications on Forsberg's health. I hope he makes a full and speedy recovery and can get back to normal as quickly as possible.
