The Ottawa Senators worked on a blockbuster trade to acquire defenseman Jakob Chychrun for months. On Wednesday, the Sens pulled it off, and hit it out of the park, only parting with conditional 2023 first-round pick, a conditional 2024 second-round pick (formerly Washington’s pick) and a 2026 second-round pick in return for the star blue liner.
After this grand slam trade, it sounds like Senators general manager Pierre Dorion might not be done ahead of the deadline.
Chris Johnston revealed on Thursday night’s Insider Trading on TSN that the Senators might still be busy today:
“As of Thursday [general manager] Pierre Dorion is still said to be working the phones. He hasn’t necessarily locked in on one priority, I think he wants to survey what’s left.
“We know it’s not a lot left out there to get but in the past we know that Dorian has been looking for another centre for his team. He’s also told his players that he’s going to try to add and give them the best chance to play meaningful games into March and he’s in that position now.”
Early on Friday, hours before the deadline, Dorion was working the phones, per team insider Bruce Garrioch.
If Dorion can pull off another amazing trade like this one, I don’t mind waiting until the very last seconds of the deadline.
Let’s stay tuned until the very end!
