With five straight victories, the Detroit Red Wings are suddenly in the thick of things in the Eastern Conference postseason race. Detroit finds themselves now only a pair of points outside of the final Wild Card playoff spot thanks to impressive performances in western Canada.

And during last night's 5-2 victory over the host Calgary Flames at the Scotiabank Saddledome, veteran forward David Perron notched an important career milestone by registering his 700th career point.

For Perron, who is in his first season with the Red Wings after being signed this past summer, he's pleased to see things starting to click for Detroit.

"We finally have the lines the way it seems like we want them," the happy veteran forward said in the dressing room afterward. "Everything is starting to click. Everyone is finding their role. It's a good feeling to string wins together right now."

"I was stuck at 695 (points) for a bit, so I wasn't sure if it was gonna happen this year or in two years," said Perron. "It was good. Our power play has been doing pretty good recently. We've been clicking and a lot of guys have been stepping up at the right time. It's a good feeling."

The Red Wings have three games in hand on the Washington Capitals and Pittsburgh Penguins, along with four games in hand on the Atlantic Division rival Florida Panthers.

“You can’t ease off,” Perron said. “You look around the league, we won’t play (Friday), there’s going to be teams that are either tied with us or we’re chasing that are going to win games and all the sudden all the work we did we’re still in the same place, kind of, so we got to keep winning.”

The Red Wings will wrap up their western road swing with a matchup against the Seattle Kraken tomorrow night at Climate Pledge Arena. Game time is set for 10:30 PM EST.
