David Jiricek has finally been traded.

After many weeks of speculation surrounding a potential trade, David Jiricek has finally been traded.

The David Jiricek saga is finally over... at least for now.

According to multiple reports, the Columbus Blue Jackets defenseman has been traded and will be packing his bags and heading to Minnesota where he will become the newest member of the Minnesota Wild. There are however several additional details in this trade with multiple draft picks as well as another defensemen on the move so let's break it down.

Wild receive:

David Jiricek
5th round draft selection.

Blue Jackets receive:

Damon Hunt
1st round draft selection (2025)
2nd round draft selection (2027)
4th round draft selection.

The details of this deal were confirmed by National Hockey League insider Frank Seravalli.

Jiricek has been the topic of rampant trade speculation over the course of the last several weeks with the 21 year old defenseman being linked to several teams around the NHL during that time. Jiricek, a former first round pick (6th overall) of the Blue Jackets at the 2022 NHL Entry Draft has largely been out of the lineup for the majority of the season. He played only 6 games at the NHL level where he recorded a single point, an assist, and an additional 4 games at the American Hockey League level with the Cleveland Monsters where he had 2 goals and 1 assist for a total of 3 points.

My initial thoughts here are that the Wild have given up quite a haul to land Jiricek, but we will have to wait and see how this all plays out in the future before drawing any real conclusions.
