Darren McCarty praises young Red Wings players

The Detroit legend loves what he's seeing!

Things did not go well for the Detroit Red Wings this past week - up until Saturday night.

Three straight losses to their Original 6 rivals Toronto Maple Leafs, Montreal Canadiens and Boston Bruins had all but dried up the good feelings that the fan base was enjoying after the thrilling game at Little Caesars Arena last Friday night against the League-leading Florida Panthers, albeit an overtime setback.

However, two straight listless performances against the Habs and Bruins after a dramatic comeback effort against the Leafs invoked memories of the miserable 2019-20 season that saw Detroit earn the worst record in the NHL prior to the COVID-19 shutdown.

However, the team put an end to that with a two-goal comeback in the 3rd period Saturday night against the Buffalo Sabres courtesy of leading scorer Tyler Bertuzzi, capped by the first career goal of defenseman Moritz Seider in overtime. Detroit then kept their momentum rolling with a 5-2 win over the contending Vegas Golden Knights at Little Caesars Arena on Sunday.

Former Red Wings legend Darren McCarty is loving what he's seeing from the current edition of the roster, which boasts Seider and fellow rookie phenom Lucas Raymond.

"These guys never quit!" McCarty explained on The Woodward Sports NetworkThey score goals from the hard areas and I can't say it enough. But being Johnny on the Spot - and this goal was probably the biggest goal of the weekend to get them back (talking about Bertuzzi's first tally)."

"And how else would you not love Mo Seider to then get his first NHL goal, and obviously being so effective? As an OT winner, you're going to see this for years and years to come. Maybe not so much the OT winners but the effectiveness on the ice. That led into yesterday's game against Vegas, and you see the confidence."

Of course, McCarty certainly knows what he's talking about as a four-time Stanley Cup winner with the Red Wings. We're certainly loving what we're seeing from the young players on the roster, and particularly that of Raymond and Seider, who just so happen to be first and second overall in NHL rookie scoring.
