Dallas Stars slapped with a huge fine from the NHL

UPDATE: In addition to today's earlier fines handed out by NHL Player Safety, the NHL has slapped the Dallas Stars with a $100,000 fine for holding an optional practice on Boxing Day, December 26th.


NEW YORK (Dec. 30, 2024) – The National Hockey League announced today that it has fined the Dallas Stars’ organization $100,000 for the team’s practice on Dec. 26, 2024. This team activity was in violation of Article 16.5(b) of the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the NHL and the NHL Players’ Association.

The fine money goes to the NHL Foundation.


You may recall that the Toronto Maple Leafs faced a similar fine from the league for traveling as a team over the Holidays.

This just in, the NHL has handed out two fines today.

First up, the league has fined Philadelphia Flyers rookie Matvei Michkov for high sticking Los Angeles Kings forward Quinton Byfield.


The two players got tangled up with each other during a shoving match when Michkov got a bit reckless with his stick.

Incidentally, the NHL has fined Chicago Blackhawks forward Patrick Maroon for elbowing Dallas Stars forward Mavrik Bourque.


In both cases, the players were fined less than 0.002% of their annual salaries. That'll learn 'em, Gary...
