Crucial update on William Nylander's future with Leafs

Toronto Maple Leafs forward William Nylander is on an absolute tear, having registered at least one point in each of his first 17 games of the season before the streak came to an end on Friday against the Chicago Blackhawks. It was also a perfect ending for the Swedish native playing in his homeland during the NHL Global Series, scoring the tying goal against the Red Wings last Friday and then netting the overtime-winning goal against the Wild last Sunday. 

Of course, all of this happens to be taking place in the final year of his current contract. There were several reports over the offseason that Nylander refused to budge on his asking price, and that he would not be taking a discount to try and remain with the team.

But after having gotten Auston Matthews to agree to a four-year contract extension, 1st year Maple Leafs general manager Brad Treliving hasn't given up on getting Nylander to agree to a long-term pact to stay put.

In his words, he and the rest of Leafs management are "working on" getting Nylander to agree to an extension. 

"Willie has had a tremendous start to the year," Treliving stated. "I stated from Day 1, our objective was to get Auston signed, we got him signed. Our objective is to get Willie signed and we're working at it."

What kind of deal will Nylander agree to if they're able to get something worked out, and how will it affect Toronto's salary cap?
