Craig Berube makes drastic change to his lineup on Monday.

The head coach of the Maple Leafs is making a major change after 2 straight losses.

I don't think there's any doubt in anyone's mind that Toronto Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube was looking to send a message to his forwards with his lineup decisions during Monday's morning skate.

In a drastic turn of events, Berube has made a major shift to his top line by adding a name that I don't think anyone would have expected to that line today. When the Maple Leafs hit the ice for practice today, paired alongside star forwards Auston Matthews and Mitch Marner was none other than veteran forward Steve Lorentz.

Yes you read that right, Steve Lorentz.

Here's how the full lineup looked during today's morning skate:

Lorentz - Matthews - Marner
Knies - Tavares - Nylander
McMann - Domi - Robertson
Dewar - Kampf - Reaves
Extras: Pacioretty, Holmberg

Rielly - Myers
Ekman-Larsson - Tanev
Benoit - Timmins

Lorentz is of course not the kind of player you would expect to see on your team's top line but there's no disputing the fact that he has been a valuable asset for the Maple Leafs this season. He hasn't produced a great deal in the way of offense, with 4 goals and 5 assists for a total of 9 points in 44 games this season, but he has been a reliable addition to the lineup and one that Berube has been able to depend on.

Don't worry though you're not the only one surprised by today's news with Lorentz himself admitting that he was caught off guard.

"I'm not going to lie, I was a little bit nervous at first," admitted Lorentz. "Anytime you're playing with guys of that calibre, I'm fortunate, but you got a little bit bigger expectations."

It remains to be seen if Berube intends to deploy the trio of Marner, Matthews ands Lorentz in an actual game, but there's no question that Berube has sent a message after 2 straight losses from his team.
