Captain Connor McDavid doesn’t know what to say anymore. After the Edmonton Oilers lost 6-4 to the Ottawa Senators on Saturday, McDavid was at a loss for words when asked to evaluate what happened in the defeat.

“I’m not sure what to tell you,” McDavid said. “Obviously, it’s been a long layoff. Come in and work ourselves to a 3-1 lead and give it away.”

“I wish I had an answer for you. We’ve talked it over and over and over again in that room and, obviously, we haven’t found an answer yet. That being said, we gotta show up, and we got three practices here before our next one, and we get back to work.”

The next game comes on Thursday night against the red-hot Florida Panthers, and it’s easy to say how frustrated the Oilers have become: we saw yesterday when Leon Draisaitl got into it with reporter Jim Matheson.

As Draisaitl was trending on social media, so was McDavid. That’s because many fans started trying to predict when would the captain would ask for a trade out of Edmonton with their ongoing struggles and lack of success in the postseason.

The Oilers sit sixth in the Pacific Division with an 18-15-2 record. The club is 2-6-2 in its last 10 games after a hot start to the 2021-22 season. With playoff hopes dwindling, fans cannot imagine McDavid or even Draisaitl wanting to stick around if they fail to be top contenders much longer.

Here are some of the tweets that got the Oilers’ captain trending for unfortunate reasons:

Do you think we will see the day when McDavid is traded out of Edmonton?
