Geez, the rivalry is getting nasty…

For many seasons, it was the battle between Pittsburgh Penguins’ Sidney Crosby and Edmonton Oilers’ Connor McDavid. With the latter in the lead these past seasons, he might have felt safe at the top, but it wasn’t lonely as McDavid could feel someone breathing down his neck. And you know that player coming on top with him is Toronto Maple Leafs’ Auston Matthews.
And his fans are out to get McDavid. On Thursday, Bardown posted a picture of the Oilers’ captain asking fans to describe McDavid to anyone that has never seen him play.
Like many fans were quick to share insightful and positive description of the star player, Matthews’ fans got in the mix and manhandled poor McDavid, describing him as a weaker version of the Maple Leafs’ superstar.
Here are some posts going after McDavid in a new chapter of the ongoing rivalry between the Oilers’ great and Matthews:
This will be one of the great one-on-one rivalry of the coming years. While Matthews is at the top of the leaderboard with 58 goals this season (McDavid is 15 behind) - the Oilers’ captain sits atop of the rankings in points with 113. Matthews has 102.
Like we said, a great rivalry and clearly one that involves a nasty sideshow on social media.
