As everyone in the hockey world expected, the Chicago Blackhawks selected Connor Bedard with the No. 1 pick in the 2023 NHL Draft. Everyone, expect Bedard himself, is adamant that he will be in the Hawks’ roster once the 2023-24 season gets underway, but the superstar prospect is too humble.
When asked about the Blackhawks facing the Pittsburgh Penguins on opening night in early October, Bedard reacted the idea of facing his idol Sidney Crosby in the face-off circle, Bedard had the funniest answer:
“I was trying not to look at the schedule. People were telling me, I didn’t want to look too hard. Man, if I’m able to make the squad come October… That’s my idol ever since I can remember. That’d be unbelievable.”
“If I’m able to make the squad” : COME ON, CONNOR!
Bedard has posted back-to-back 100-point seasons with the Regina Pats of the Western Hockey League, and figures to make an immediate impact for his new team in 2023-24. The Blackhawks would be simply the dumbest franchise of the planet if he’s not on the roster come October.
Even the Penguins congratulated the Blackhawks for selecting Bedard, even adding:
“We’ll see you for opening night in Pittsburgh on October 10.”
