The Detroit Red Wings are going to be without the familiar voice of radio play by play man Ken Kal for the foreseeable future, as it was announced that he had undergone a medical procedure following Detroit facing Ottawa on Saturday afternoon.
"He is resting comfortably and we know all fans join us in wishing Ken a speedy recovery," the team said in a statement posted to X (formerly Twitter).
Kal himself would release the following update on his personal social media account:
“It truly is appreciated," he said of the well wishes. "I was in quite a bit of pain yesterday calling the game. Had a procedure done as soon as we got back from Ottawa. All went well. Will be on IR for at least a week. Enjoy.”
Kal has been the radio voice behind the microphone for the Red Wings since the mid 1990s, replacing Bruce Martyn.
