The Chicago Blackhawks were hard at work at practice on Tuesday and the focus was on forechecking. Because they have sucked at it lately and coach Marc Crawford is sick of it. You could hear him screaming and yelling at players as they skating through motions.
“F2, what the F*CK are you checking?”
Interim head coach Derek King was glad Crawford took over and voiced his displeasure. It is hard not to listen to the coach who is known for his fiery temper.
“We need a wake-up call here,” King said afterwards per Ben Pope, speaking on behalf of the coaching staff. “It was good. [It added] a little emotion, a little excitement. It was making them feel a little uncomfortable, which they needed.”
The Blackhawks are currently 16-22-7 and have lost six of their last seven games and 12 of 17 since mid-December. They need to fix issues and a big one is forechecking.
We’ll just have to wait and see if Crawford’s fury has done the trick. The Hawks face the Minnesota Wild on Wednesday before beginning the All-Star break.
