Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender Matt Murray is as good as gone from the team, as his name has been heavily involved in trade rumors as well as conversations of an old-fashioned contract buyout of the last year of his deal.
Meanwhile, goaltender Ilya Samsonov, who posted great numbers in his first year with the Leafs last season and also helped them to the 2nd round of the postseason for the first time since 2004, has filed for salary arbitration. It would certainly be a stunner if the two sides were unable to hammer out a new agreement.
But in anticipation of that possibility, a major trade proposal has been offered by ClutchPoints - suppose that new Maple Leafs general manager Brad Treliving decided to look to Music City and acquire Nashville Predators goaltender Juuse Saros?
As part of their proposed deal, the Leafs would send forward William Nylander, whom they are reportedly having difficulty coming to terms with a new contract, Murray, and a 1st round draft selection.
The Predators would be acquiring a 40 goal scorer, while the Leafs would be netting a former Vezina Trophy candidate who is still early in his NHL career.
While this is simply only a proposal, it would be an absolutely monumental deal for both franchises. If you were Treliving or Barry Trotz, what would be going through your mind if you were to actually receive this proposal?
