Caps-Canes game got off the rails with huge fight, dirty plays, for more than 140 penalty minutes!
Was watching a hockey game and a UFC match broke out! Watch below:
There was so much happening in the game between the Washington Capitals against the Hurricanes in Carolina on Wednesday, including superstar Alex Ovechkin scoring the 892nd of his career in front of NHL commissioner Gary Bettman who’s following the Capitals’ captain as he’s just three goals away from breaking Wayne Gretzky’s NHL record.
But that’s not what will be remembered of tonight’s game. In the last seven minutes of the third period, as the Canes led 5-1, the game officially got off the rails with many scrums and fights taking place, forcing the officials to eject many players and get a bunch of penalties in order.
It started off with Tom Wilson - of course who else - as he roughed up Logan Stankoven, who was also penalized for roughing. Wilson’s gloves were off and everyone had a dance partner in the corner. Four minutes for roughing for the Caps’ enforcer and a 10 minute misconduct. Stankoven gets two for roughing and a 10-minute misconduct.
Just over a minute later, there was more chaos with Brandon Duhaime and Tyson Jost getting into it. Nic Dowd also got it going with Mark Jankowski, and both continue to jaw at one another from the penalty box.
It made it easy for the officials to give a misconduct to Dowd, Jost, Duhaime, and Jankowski.
With less than six minutes to go, it was Connor McMichael and Jalen Chatfield, who dropped the gloves in a heavy fight to close out the heated confrontations.
5 fights and six game misconducts in the last 5 minutes. 110 minutes of penalties and counting. In the end, there was a total of 114 penalty minutes in the last minutes of the last frame, but a total of 144 penalty minutes in the game, as many fans hope will be a matchup in the upcoming series in the postseason.
