Things go from bad to worse in Vancouver.

Vancouver Canucks general manager Patrik Allvin has announced that forward Tanner Pearson will be out of the team's lineup for four to six weeks after undergoing hand surgery.

Check it out:

This is obviously tough news for the Canucks, a team that can't really afford any kind of tough news. But the thing is... Pearson has been pretty bad this season. The 30 year old Stanley Cup champion has just one goal in 14 games this season and has taken several ill-timed penalties that have really come back to haunt the Canucks in some close games.

Pearson seemed like a good fit when he first arrived in Vancouver, putting up 9 goals in his first 19 games with the team back in 2018-19 and then put together a career high 21 goals and 45 points in 69 games with the team in 2019-20. He has natural chemistry with centerman Bo Horvat, but Horvat has played most of this season alongside JT Miller and a revolving cast of wingers. As a result, Pearson has failed to find his footing this season and has found himself on the 3rd or 4th line at points during the campaign.

The thing with the Canucks is that, as bad as their defence and goaltending has been this season, they actually have some really good depth up front. Horvat, Miller, Elias Pettersson, Brock Boeser, Conor Garland, Ilya Mikheyev and Andrei Kuzmenko have all out performed Pearson this season and youngsters Nils Hoglander and Vasili Podkozlin aren't far behind. If Pearson can't find his spot in the lineup when he returns from injury, I'd be real concerned about his future with the team moving forward. Stay tuned.
