Canucks frustrated with offers on Miller, turn to Pettersson deal instead!
Don’t be surprised to hear the Elias Pettersson trade talk ramp back up with this latest update. More below:
Even though forward Elias Pettersson has told the Canucks he wants to stay in Vancouver amid the rumoured dressing room feud with teammate J.T. Miller, the club might ignore what he said and move him instead.
Cam Robinson of Elite Prospects reports that the offers the Canucks have received for Miller have not been good enough which could lead them to attempt trading Pettersson instead because “ it’ll be a lot easier to recoup value”.
“Don’t be surprised to hear the Elias Pettersson trade talk ramp back up. Vancouver is unhappy with the offers for Miller, and it’ll be a lot easier to recoup value in a Pettersson deal.”
Miller was reportedly almost moved over the past weekend. Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman revealed that a transaction almost took place but fell apart before Saturday’s game against the Edmonton Oilers, which would have apparently sent the forward to the New York Rangers. Filip Chytil, Ryan Lindgren, and a first-round pick were reportedly part of the package that Rangers general manager Chris Drury had offered Vancouver before the trade was called off.
On Friday, Nick Kypreos reported that many teams are inquiring about Miller, but that “Rutherford wants to get this done but Canucks are getting nickeled and dimed.”
When it comes to Miller’s seven-year, $56 million contract he signed in 2022, he holds a full no-move clause. When a trade is imminent, the forward will be asked to waive that clause, where as Pettersson does not have that control. He will eventually have trade protection on his new eight-year, $92 million contract, but that doesn’t kick in until next season.
And so, could Jim Rutherford and general manager Patrik Allvin look to move Pettersson instead of Miller?
