The Vancouver Canucks are in something of an ugly situation with several of their regulars out for a variety of reasons. This is particularly troubling for the team given the fact that they have a game scheduled for later today.

According to a report from Canucks insider Thomas Drance, goaltender Spencer Martin has now tested positive for Covid and as a result of his positive test it sounds like he is unlikely to be available for tonight's game against the St. Louis Blues. This now leaves the Canucks with an unbelievable 4 goaltenders sidelined and out of action, with Martin joining Thatcher Demko and Jaroslav Halak on those sidelines.

The timing of this announcement has to be devastating for Martin who, at 26 years old, was given just his 2nd crack at playing in the NHL this last week. Martin had an outstanding performance for the Canucks with a 0.92 goals against average and a .971 save percentage in his only outing for the franchise, and it looked like the Canucks were going to give him the run of the net with Demko and Halak currently unable to go.

According to Drance there is still a possibility that he could be available tonight if he receives a pair of negative tests, but even Drance himself has conceded that this is highly unlikely.

As I mentioned the Canucks are without Thatcher Demko who has also tested positive for Covid and as a result is sidelined on the National Hockey League's Covid protocol list. Jaroslav Halak on the other hand is dealing with an issue at the border and will also be unavailable for the Canucks when they face the Blues this evening.

The next man up would likely have been American Hockey League goaltender Arturs Silovs, but according to Drance he has also been sidelined due to Covid which also leaves him unable to play.

So who does that leave the Canucks with? Well according to Drance we are all the way down to Michael DiPietro who has played just 13 games in the AHL this season with a 3.19 goals against average and a .896 save percentage. This likely means that tonight's contest will be an uphill battle for the Canucks.
