Another last minute move.

We have another trade coming in right at the wire.
This time it is National Hockey League insider Elliotte Friedman that is reporting the Dallas Stars have traded veteran forward Jason Dickinson to the Vancouver Canucks. Although at the time of the report it was initially unclear what would be going back the other way, the Stars have since confirmed that they will be receiving a 2021 third round draft selection from the Canucks in this deal.
It may feel like something of a disappointing return for a player in Dickson that was drafted in the first round (29th overall) by the Stars organization in 2013, but it seems likely that the Stars felt he would have been a target of the Seattle Kraken in the expansion draft and opted instead to get what return they could for the veteran centerman on short notice.
In Dickson the Canucks will get a 26 year old centerman who comes with team control, but who also comes without a contract. Dickson will be a restricted free agent on July 28th and how valuable a deal this proves to be for the Canucks will no could hinge largely on how the contract that Dickson inevitably signs with the Canucks plays out over its duration. Nonetheless the Canucks get an NHL ready center with over 200 games of experience in the league in what no doubt feels like a pretty decent deal on their end.
Dickson appeared in 51 games for the Stars over the course of the 2020 - 2021 regular season and recorded 7 goals and 8 assists for 15 points over that stretch. He also finished the regular season with 18 penalty minutes and a plus minus rating of -2.
