The Montreal Canadiens currently hold the fifth overall pick for tonight’s NHL Draft in Nashville. The important word is currently as insider Frank Seravalli reveals that “Sources tell Daily Faceoff that the Canadiens are spending Wednesday’s lead-up to the Draft deliberating as many as five separate offers for the pick from teams looking to make a significant move up the board.”
Seravalli adds that the Canadiens could wait until after the San Jose Sharks select fourth to see who’s been taken before pulling off this major trade.
“If the Habs have their sights set on one player in particular and he is taken, it’s possible to see the Canadiens pivot and slide a little further down to get their hands on another player while collecting some additional value in the meantime.”
On Tuesday, the Canadiens had already moved some picks in this year’s draft, sending the the 31st and 37th picks, along with defenseman Gianni Fairbrother, to the Colorado Avalanche in return for the rights to forward Alex Newhook.
Could a much bigger trade be in the works during tonight’s draft?
