Camera catches fans running back in after disallowed goal in OT

The Florida Panthers and Carolina Hurricanes played one of the longest games in NHL history in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference final, battling to a fourth overtime. It was Matthew Tkachuk scored the game winner just seconds before the contest was set to enter a fifth extra period.

Funny enough the game could have ended way earlier when Ryan Lomberg scored in the first overtime. But the goal was disallowed due to goalie interference.

Which meant that Hurricanes fans that had left the building thinking the game was over suddenly realized there was still a chance for Carolina.

Camera caught fans running back in and heading back to their seats after Lomberg’s goal was disallowed, excited that there was a chance the Canes to take the lead in the series.

When these fans rushed back in, there was no way they could imagine the game heading into four overtimes.

Florida’s previous record for longest game was 104:31 in Game 4 of the 1996 Stanley Cup final against Colorado. Carolina’s previous record was 114:47 for Game 3 of the 2002 Stanley Cup final. The teams each lost those games.

These fans didn’t know they were rushing back in for three more periods.
