Brutal message sent to the Bruins after latest firing in the NHL
Boston needs to face the truth. Full story below:
On Thursday morning, John Tortorella was relieved of his duties as head coach of the Philadelphia Flyers. The team had just nine games remaining in the season, with a 28-36-9 record before Torts was let go.
It was almost written in the sky that Tortorella was on his way out, and now fans in Boston believe that the logical move coming next for the Bruins would be not only to fire general manager Don Sweeney, but also part with team president Cam Neely.
The latter recently spoke with the Boston Globe about his club’s ongoing struggles and the fanbase’s harsh criticism to the many trades at the deadline, especially the one sending captain Brad Marchand to the Florida Panthers. Sweeney also dealt Brandon Carlo to the Toronto Maple Leafs, Charlie Coyle to the Colorado Avalanche, Justin Brazeau to the Minnesota Wild, and Trent Frederic to the Edmonton Oilers.
Neely admitted that he expected fans to boo the team when it returns home on April 1st.
However, it might get worse. Fans online have been demanding for Sweeney and Neely to get fired by Bruins’ ownership especially when Tortorella got the boot in Philadelphia. Several fans took on social media to demand that both executives be fired now, before the end of the season.
The Bruins have struggled, even worse than usual in their last three outings in which they were crushed by the Vegas Golden Knights (5-1), Los Angeles Kings (7-2) and the Anaheim Ducks (6-2) on Wednesday. The Ducks outshot the Bruins 37-25. It was the seventh time in the last eight games the Bruins allowed more shots than they took. The Bruins are 0-4-0 on their five-game trip. They wrap on Saturday in Detroit where the Red Wings will fight hard as they can still compete for a playoff spot.
As for the Bruins, they are expected to miss the playoffs for the first time since the 2015-16 NHL season.
