The Boston Bruins and goalie Jeremy Swayman are scheduled to have their arbitration meeting on Sunday despite fans hoping they can reach a deal prior to it. However on Friday, Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman reported the arbitration filings from both sides and the Bruins and Swayman are $2.8 M apart at the moment.
Swayman finished his second full NHL season with a 24-6-4 record with a .920 save percentage and 2.27 goals-against average while sharing the net with 2023 Vezina Trophy winner Linus Ullmark. The duo was awarded the Jennings Trophy after allowing a league-low 177 goals against in 2022-2023.
The young goalie also took part in two games in the playoffs, including getting the start in the Bruins’ 4-3 overtime loss in Game 7 against the Florida Panthers in the first round.
Swayman isn’t the only goalie left amongst the eight remaining arbitration hearings. Minnesota Wild goaltender Filip Gustavsson is also scheduled for a hearing, though it would happen on August 4th, if a deal cannot be reached ahead.
This offseason, Toronto Maple Leafs elected to go to arbitration with Ilya Samsonov and on Sunday, the goalie was awarded a $3.55 million salary on a one-year contract. He will be an unrestricted free agent next summer.
This could impact the Bruins and the situation with Swayman as it gives another comparable contract to work off of during negotiations.
Let’s see what happens next.
