Bruce Boudreau reacts to Leafs offseason
The former NHL coach weighs in on Toronto's summer.
The Toronto Maple Leafs underwent several changes during the 2024 offseason following their latest collapse in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, and the team that hits the ice this fall is going to look different than the squad that skated off the TD Garden ice in disappointment.
Gone are the likes of Tyler Bertuzzi, Ilya Samsonov, Ilya Lyubushkin, and T.J. Brodie, while Chris Tanev, Oliver Ekman-Larsson, and Anthony Stolarz have arrived. Additionally, the Leafs made a major change behind the bench by terminating Sheldon Keefe and replacing him with Craig Berube.
How does former NHL head coach Bruce Boudreau feel about the moves that the Leafs made? As he puts it, they had the most impressive offseason moves of any Atlantic Division team.
"I'm not just saying this [because] I'm from Toronto but I really like what they did with their defense. I mean, the three acquisitions that they made to bolster their defense, especially when you get (Chris) Tanev. I had (Oliver) Ekman-Larsson. When he's at his best, he's still a really good defenseman," Boudreau said.
In fact, Boudreau believes that the Leafs are now in prime position to make a postseason run.
"These guys are really good players and Toronto is already got the offense, that they can go. If they can get the defense now, to go with it, I really believe that they can make it past that first round and go a little bit further."
