New York Islanders’ Brock Nelson’s name has been heard plenty of times over the past few weeks as Friday’s trade deadline nears and now with just a couple of days to go, the forward himself knows he might have played his last game in Long Island.

After the Isles took down the visiting Winnipeg Jets on Tuesday night, Nelson spoke after the game in front of all of the home fans, and got choked up during the postgame interview as he considered how this could be his last time playing for the Islanders.

Struggling to answer the question about playing in what could be his last game in Long Island, Nelson did his best to keep the tears in.

The veteran forward has spent his entire 12-year career on Long Island. While there is still a chance for general manager Lou Lamoriello to keep Nelson on the roster, since he discussed an extension with Nelson’s agent earlier this season, many believe the Islanders would be making a mistake. Nelson could be a top trade target in a seller’s market and would be able to command a hefty return package for the Islanders.

New York currently holds a 28-26-7 record and three points back of the Eastern Conference playoff cut line.
Nelson got emotional and will probably be very nervous in the coming days until he knows his fate at the deadline.
