This just in, the Philadelphia Flyers have hired former NHL forward John LeClair as Special Advisor to Hockey Operations.
The Flyers, of course, already have a number of former Flyers forwards in their executive staff. Daniel Briere is the team's GM, Keith Jones is President, while Patrick Sharp and LeClair will serve as Special Advisors.
"Adding in John LeClair to work in conjunction with Patrick Sharp and the rest of our hockey operations group will be a powerful combination with their vast hockey knowledge and a 'team-first' mentality," said Jones in a prepared statement. "John has been around the NHL and the game for a long time and knows what it takes to bring the core ethics of our foundation to the Philadelphia Flyers."
"We have another great addition to our hockey operations team in John LeClair," said Briere. "John's hockey resume speaks for itself. His passion for the city of Philadelphia along with his strong leadership skills will be a key component to building our team back into its winning ways."
"I'm extremely excited and honored to be named a Special Advisor to Hockey Operations," said LeClair. "I'm most looking forward to being a part of this group and ensuring our number one priority is to bring the Stanley Cup to Philadelphia."
According to the Flyers' own press release announcement, LeClair will work alongside Sharp to assist the team's hockey operations with a "strong focus on player development with Flyers prospects."
LeClair, of course, was one-third of the Flyers' infamous 'Legion of Doom' line alongside linemates Mikael Renberg and Eric Lindros and became the first American-born NHL player to register three consecutive 50-goal seasons. He was inducted into the US Hockey Hall of Fame in 2009 and the Flyers Hall of Fame in 2014.
Interestingly enough, LeClair will retain his coaching position with the 3 on 3 league 3ICE this offseason. The 53 year old LeClair has coached in the league the past two seasons and praises it for providing affordable, fast paced hockey for families in the Philadelphia area. Honestly... I can get behind that idea.
