Breaking: Four waiver claims in the NHL today
More movement a day before opening day!

In case you missed it, there were a TON of NHLers placed on waivers yesterday morning as teams scramble to get down to their 23 man opening day roster for 5pm ET today. As a result, four waiver claims were made this morning, including two goalies being scooped up from the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Check out these claims, courtesy of NHL insider and Sportsnet analyst Elliotte Friedman:
PHIL claims Pickard from TOR
CAR claims McElhinney from TOR
BUF claims Elie from DAL
WASH claims Jaskin from STL
Some interesting pick ups for sure... especially when it comes to the Leafs. In the span of just 24 hours, they Leafs have had their goaltending depth absolutely DECIMATED. It was just a day ago that they sported four quality NHL goaltenders on their roster... today they're left with just two. It looks like the Frederik Andersen and Garret Sparks show for the Leafs this season, as the Curtis McElhinney safety net heads to the Carolina Hurricanes. Calvin Pickard was another solid depth netminder for the Leafs, but with the Philadelphia Flyers having so many question marks in goal, it makes sense for them to take a chance on Pickard. Can a playoff calibre team like the Flyers really afford to trot out Brian Elliott and Michael Neuvirth every night and simply hope for the best? They took a flier (pardon the pun) on Petr Mrazek that didn't pan out last season, consider the Pickard pick up to be a similar move. Of course, anyone in the Flyers crease is simply keeping things warm for top prospect Carter Hart, who is expected to excel with the AHL's Lehigh Valley Phantoms in 2018-19.
The Dimitry Jaskin claim is particularly interesting, as it's expected by many that Washington Capitals forward Tom Wilson could be in line to receive a lengthy suspension for his hit on St. Louis Blues forward Oskar Sundqvist this past Sunday. If that's indeed the case, Jaskin will provide the Caps with some relief on the wing. As for forward Remi Elie, he'll be a depth player with the Buffalo Sabres at best. The 23 year old played 72 games with the Dallas Stars last season, scoring six goals and 14 points.
