Brady Tkachuk caught in a lie when it comes to brother Matthew!

This has to be a tricky situation for the younger Tkachuk as his brother is heading into the Stanley Cup final.

At the start of the postseason, Ottawa Senators captain Brady Tkachuk mentioned that he would not be the same cheerleader for his brother Matthew when he was a member of the Calgary Flames during last season’s playoffs. He was adamant it felt wrong to support Matthew and his team, which is part of the same division as the Senators.

“Unfortunately, the Florida (Panthers) faithful will not be experiencing my presence,” he said during a recent appearance on the “ Got Yer Back “ podcast. “You know, it’s different now - same division, it’s just a different vibe this year with us. We were so close.

“Last year, we were out pretty early in February, and we weren’t really expected to be there, either. It’s usually my downtime, too. … I might be in Florida, but I’m definitely not going to any of their games.”

Well, Brady… PEOPLE magazine and Matthew claim otherwise. In an article about Matthew’s impact with the Panthers and his potential to become one of the faces of the NHL, the Florida star forward commented on his family’s support saying that his dad Keith has been “buzzing” throughout the playoffs. “He almost wants me to win it more [than he ever did],” he says about his dad. “He’s so proud.”

However, it was also revealed that “most of the Tkachuk family has been at every Panthers home game these playoffs, including his dad, his mom Chantal, and his younger brother Brady, the captain of the Ottawa Senators and an NHL All Star in his own right.”

When asked about his younger brother, Matthew only had good words for Brady, who probably hid the truth because he is stuck between a rock and a hard place.

“We’re hoping that one day we can get a chance to play with each other,” Tkachuk tells PEOPLE, “Whether that’s a Team USA thing or we’ll see what happens in the NHL, but hopefully one day.”

We understand Brady. I find it awesome that he is still supporting his brother despite the clubs’ rivalry.
