Brad Marchand calls out Canadians booing American anthem.

Canadian star Brad Marchand shares his thoughts on the recent anthem controversy in the sport of hockey.

The controversy surrounding the booing of the American national anthem has been an unexpected wrinkle in this Four Nations Face-Off tournament but it is one that has added fuel to the fire of an already red hot on-ice rivalry between Canada and the United States of America.

With plenty of games left to play in this tournament we haven't seen or heard the last of that controversy and of course the players who find themselves stuck in the middle of the controversy will be asked to share their takes on the situation. The latest such player was none other than Canadian star forward Brad Marchand, who made it very clear that he does not support those who have taken it upon themselves to disrespect the American national anthem.

"They should not be booing the Americans during that anthem," said Marchand.

Marchand made it clear that he felt it was unfair to the players on the American side of the ice, making the rather obvious observation that players in the National Hockey League don't have much influence when it comes to foreign policy.

"They have nothing to do with the political things that are going on," added the captain of the Boston Bruins.

Marchand even went so far as to indicate that he felt bad for many of the American players that have had to endure that kind of disrespect so far.

"I do feel bad for those guys in that moment," admitted Marchand. "I don’t think it’s right."

Marchand's feelings on this topic have been echoed by many prominent Canadians in the hockey community and there does seem to be a strong contingent of hockey fans that feel booing the anthems does needlessly cross the line into disrespect. That being said, it is clear that not all Canadians agree with Marchand given that we continue to see the American anthem being booed at hockey games in Canada.

Do you agree with the Bruins captain? Let me know your thoughts in the comments.
