Both John Tortorella and Cam York “crossed the line” during altercation in Toronto!

Which led to interim coach Brad Shaw benching York for the entire game last night, even though Torts had been fired.

On Thursday, the Philadelphia Flyers looked more alive in a 6-4 win over the Montreal Canadiens. Earlier that day, the team had dismissed head coach John Tortorella, replacing him with Brad Shaw on an interim basis. While the change was abrupt, the Flyers got back up and recorded the victory, playing party-poopers for the Habs fighting for a playoff spot in a tight race.

They got back up, except for defenseman Cam York. He actually never got off the bench. For the entire game last night, the blue liner had zero shifts and zero TOI despite being dressed for the game.

In the postgame presser, Shaw was asked in the postgame presser why York remained on the bench for the entire game, the new head coach Shaw explained that the young blue liner did not play for disciplinary issue, Shaw wouldn’t go any further on what happened. Plan is for York to get back in Saturday against the Buffalo Sabres.

Team insider Kevin Kurz dug a little more and find out from a source that “something happened between Cam York and John Tortorella in Toronto, that contributed to the coach’s dismissal on Thursday morning. Was put to me that “they probably both crossed the line.”

This past Tuesday night, the Flyers got doors blown off them, losing 7-2 to the Toronto Maple Leafs. Unfortunately, York only played 3:50 of that game, as he was benched following a goal that made the score 1-1 at the time.

York is playing for a contract next season, as he becomes a restricted free agent this summer. He needs to get back on track, and perhaps get a better attitude, for the remainder of the season under Shaw.
