The Boston Bruins were very busy on Saturday as free agency opened up in the National Hockey League, signing a total of 5 players just in the first few hours.

Unquestionably the biggest name on this list will be that of veteran forward Milan Lucic who will make a highly anticipated return to Boston, signing a one year deal worth $1 million with his former team. Lucic certainly won't be the player he was when he left Boston, but the Bruins are getting him at an affordable rate and this will be an extremely popular signing.

Veteran forward James van Riemsdyk will be joining Lucic in Boston and he has signed an indentical deal, a one year contract worth $1 million. JVR is coming off a season in which he had 12 goals and 17 assists for a total of 29 points in just 61 games.

Morgan Geekie was also signed by the Bruins on Saturday although he will be earning twice as much as the aforementioned players and getting double the term as well. Geekie has agreed to a 2 year deal with an average annual value of $2 million per season. Geekie had 9 goals and 19 assists for a total of 28 points in 69 games with the Kraken last season.

The Bruins are also bringing in veteran defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk, and much like the deals handed out to JVR and Lucic this will be a one year deal at a cool $1 million. Shattenkirk has lost a step in these latter stages of his career but the Bruins are getting him at a value price. He had 4 goals and 23 assists for a total of 27 points in 75 games with the Anaheim Ducks last season.

Last but not least the Bruins have also added former Ottawa Senators forward Patrick Brown on a two year deal. This deal will carry an average annual value of $800,000 per season, making Brown the Bruins most frugal signing of the day.
