Bobby Orr sends a special message to Cale Makar.

Wow.

It must be a pretty good week to be Colorado Avalanche star defenseman Cale Makar.

On Sunday night, in just his fourth season in the National Hockey League, Makar kicked off his week by becoming a Stanley Cup champion at the young age of 23. Makar has now given himself plenty of time to add more trophies to his cabinet, but he wasn't quite done there. Following the conclusion of Game 6 the National Hockey League, via deputy commissioner Bill Daly, also announced this year's Conn Smythe Trophy winner, an award that would also go to the young Avalanche defenseman.

That award made him the youngest defenseman to ever win a Conn Smythe in the history of the NHL, and it placed him in an elite club of players that have won the Norris and Conn Smythe in the same season. Including Makar, only 3 players in NHL history have ever accomplished that feat and the other 2 are the legendary Bobby Orr and the legendary Nicklas Lidstrom.

There can be no doubt about the fact that he deserved the award either, Makar received 18 of a possible 18 first place votes according to the Professional Hockey Writers Association, the first player to do so since the voting process was made public in 2017.

If even all of that still wasn't enough, Monday morning may have been the cherry on top for the young Makar. On Monday, Makar received a personal message from one of the legends I've just mentioned, a man that many consider to be the greatest defenseman of all time in former Boston Bruins star Bobby Orr.

"Congratulations [Cale Makar] for a wonderful season! I couldn’t be happier for you and all your teammates," wrote Orr via his twitter.

Not only must it have been a wonderful moment for Makar, but it is a tremendously classy gesture on the part of Orr. Makar has often been compared to the NHL legend and I imagine based on Orr's response to Makar winning a Cup that Orr has loved watching him develop into an incredible defenseman over the years.

But... can you imagine winning a Stanley Cup and then waking up to a message from Bobby Orr? What a time to be Cale Makar.
