Blockbuster trade scenario sends Mitch Marner to Boston!

As the summer goes on, it does feel more and more like Maple Leafs forward Mitch Marner will stay put in Toronto for the 2024-25 season. But that gut-feeling will not put an end to the rumours and just recently someone with the handle @CapWages on X, via Hockey Patrol, suggested a monster trade that would send the winger to the Boston Bruins.

In a massive trade proposal, Marner lands in Boston and the Maple Leafs get none other than defenseman Charlie McAvoy in return. According to the account, this is the way for Toronto to win the Stanley Cup in the spring of 2025.

It’s been said more than once how the Maple Leafs still need to fix the situation on the back end to become top contenders for the Stanley Cup and adding a star blue liner like McAvoy would certainly fix it!

However, you know, just as much as I do, that the Bruins will never accept to make a deal with their hated rivals in Toronto. Boston may be looking for a boost up front after many changes in this and past off seasons, and while Marner would be a huge addition, losing McAvoy to Toronto simply cannot happen.

There was a feeling that a trade could have taken place earlier this summer with GM Brad Treliving possibly able to convince Marner to waive his no-move clause, but that is not going to happen, leaving the GM with his hands tied. I can’t say if Marner would have accepted a move to Boston, and we will probably never know…

Expect Marner to wear the Leafs’ jersey at the start of the 2024-25 campaign and don’t go thinking that the Bruins are open to moving their best defenseman since losing him would leave a terrible void in Boston.
