Forward Brendan Leipsic last played in the NHL in 2020 after he was waived by the Washington Capitals after he made misogynistic comments in a private Instagram conversation that was leaked. He went on to play in Russia and on Wednesday, Andrew Zadarnowski revealed how Leipsic is now attempting to get his Russian citizenship and reportedly turned directly to President Vladimir Putin to get it.
“Blackballed from the NHL, Brendan Leipsic is apparently applying for Russian citizenship by turning directly to Putin, according to various media outlets. He has already been issued a Russian passport. It would of course be a big Russian propaganda coup to naturalize a foreigner.”
Last season, Leipsic played for Magnitogorsk Metallurg in the KHL, where he put up 11 goals and 44 points in 65 games.
Clearly, Leipsic is looking to pursue his career and his life in Russia and make sure it all comes together when he seek the help of Putin.
