Auston Matthews suddenly lands on Leafs’ injured reserve with latest update!
It has changed from this morning’s update.
Toronto Maple Leafs superstar Auston Matthews will miss his second consecutive game tonight when the Detroit Red Wings come to town, and while head coach Craig Berube had mentioned earlier today that his captain could be in uniform tomorrow against the Montreal Canadiens, it seems like that is not going to happen.
Chris Johnston has reported that Matthews has just been placed on the Maple Leafs’ injured reserve, which guarantees that he’ll miss tomorrow’s game against Montreal.
“There’s been no setback in his recovery. The IR move is about roster management.”
Matthews missed Tuesday’s 4-0 win over the Boston Bruins and was deemed questionable for the team’s games over the weekend.
The captain, who has dealt with shoulder and wrist ailments in the past, has collected five goals and 11 points in 13 games this season. He last played on Sunday when he picked up an assist and played more than 22 minutes in a 2-1 overtime road loss to the Minnesota Wild. Berube did however mentioned earlier this week that his best player isn’t currently dealing with a wrist issue, but it remains important to take the time in his recovery.
This is apparently not a setback, but a simple business transaction to allow room on the roster. In a consequent move, Toronto has recalled forward Connor Dewar from his long term injured reserve conditioning loan. He was activated from LTIR.
Leafs forward Max Domi centred the top line between Mitch Marner and Matthew Knies on Tuesday. Anthony Stolarz is expected to get the start against the Red Wings.
