Auston Matthews leaves no doubt about his future in Toronto.
During his end of season interview, Maple Leafs forward Auston Matthews was asked about his future as a Maple Leaf.
Unless he's planning the most villainous story arc we've seen in the National Hockey League in a very long time, on Monday Toronto Maple Leafs star forward Auston Matthews left no doubt about his future in Toronto.
After another disappointing playoff exit you knew there would be some difficult questions during the end of season media availability on Monday, and that was absolutely the case. Maple Leafs captain John Tavares was faced with trade related questions and Matthews himself was asked about his future with the Maple Leafs given the fact that he will now be heading into the final year of his deal.
Matthews, who was one of the few wearing a Leafs' hat and sweatshirt during the media availability according to Lance Hornby, made it very clear that his intention was to remain in Toronto and get a new deal done prior to next season.
"Yeah, of course," said Matthews when asked if he wished to remain a Leaf long term. "My intention is to be here. I think I've reciprocated that before, how much I enjoy playing here and what it means to me, the organization, my teammates."
