The Toronto Maple Leafs lost a big game to one of their toughest rivals on Saturday night and when it was all said and done, it was hard not to pinpoint a mistake by Maple Leafs captain Auston Matthews as the moment that allowed the game to slip away.

Matthews would create a bad turnover in the defensive zone that gave Boston Bruins' forwards David Pastrnak and Brad Marchand a golden opportunity to end the game in overtime and, despite a terrific first save on the part of Leafs goaltender Anthony Stolarz, they did just that.

Following the conclusion of the game, Matthews was asked about the mistake that led to the win for the Bruins and he did not appear to be dwelling on the mistake too much.

"I thought somebody was coming back and as I went to pass I looked up and that wasn't the case," admitted Matthews. "Just tried to get back and make a play and just an unfortunate bounce."

It would seem that the sentiment among the Maple Leafs coaching staff is a similar one with head coach Craig Berube feeling that the mistake was an overall team mistake and not one that should be attributed to Matthews alone.

"It was a tough play on Auston, we gotta support him a little bit better on that play," admitted Berube. "We left him alone there and it was a mistake by everybody out there.

Thankfully for the Leafs, if they are hoping for a measure of revenge against the Bruins they won't have to wait long, with the next game between these two franchises scheduled to take place on November 5th in Toronto.
