Earlier this week, it was revealed that prior to acquiring defenseman Vladislav Gavrikov and goaltender Joonas Korpisalo from the Columbus Blue Jackets ahead of the deadline, the Los Angeles Kings had inquired about Juuse Saros to the Nashville Predators. David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period who shared the report explained how the return package involved multiple first-round picks and prospects and got him wondering if a deal would be revisited again this summer.
Many insiders believe the goalie market will be red hot this offseason, and maybe to get teams calling about Saros, sources have leaked the Predators’ asking price for the goalie. Though Nashville is shopping Saros, it is believed they will listen to all offers that need to start with this hefty asking price, per Michael Gallagher:
“After speaking with a couple different sources, it’s believed it will take a package of at least two first-round picks plus 2-3 blue-chip prospects to even get the conversation started about a Juuse Saros trade.”
It will be quite interesting to see what new general manager Barry Trotz decides to do on this matter during the summer. If a trade is made and Saros gets moved in the offseason, one could understand that the Preds are heading for a rebuild under Trotz.
If that is the case, teams like the Toronto Maple Leafs and Edmonton Oilers could take a closer at Saros to get a top goalie in their pipes for a long run at the Stanley Cup. However, they will need to be ready to pay the high price!
