There's no way to sugar coat it, this is a terrible start to the season for the Los Angeles Kings.

According to a report from Dennis Bernstein of The Fourth Period, the Los Angeles Kings have lost the services of 23 year old forward Arthur Kaliyev and it sounds like he may be out for quite some time.

Bernstein reports that Kaliyev suffered a significant injury on Friday when he took a hit during training camp, a hit that would result in an upper body injury to the Kings' forward. Bernstein also adds that Kaliyev may require surgery to repair the damage to his body, and is expected to miss a few months as a result of this injury.

That timeline will of course take Kaliyev well past the start of the regular season. which means that the Kings will have to play a significant portion of their season without Kaliyev in the lineup.

No word at this time on who delivered the hit to Kaliyev.

Kaliyev has never played a full season since being drafted by the Kings in the second round (33rd overall) of the 2019 NHL Entry Draft and hasn't even come close in his last two seasons. Last season Kaliyev appeared in just 51 games, scoring 7 goals and adding 8 assists for a total of 15 points and the season prior saw him appear in just 56 games which resulted in 13 goals and 15 assists for a total of 28 points in that season.

Unfortunately this news means that Kaliyev won't be breaking that trend this season, and now all that remains to be seen is just how much time he will miss.
