Alex Ovechkin’s wife exposes what it’s really like to date the Great 8

Can’t always be fun, right?

The Washington Capitals have made significant changes to their lineup early into the 2024-25 season, moving Alex Ovechkin to right wing despite the captain playing the left side throughout his illustrous career. On his first night in his new position, Ovechkin ended up with a multi-point game, despite admitting he struggled at times on the right.

“First couple shift was kind of like, ‘Whoa.’ It’s always like I want to go to the left side,” he said after his Caps’ 4-2 win over the Vegas Golden Knights.

Washington won again on Thursday night against the Dallas Stars, though Ovechkin did not collect a point in the 3-2 victory.

The Caps’ captain will keep adjusting to his new role in the lineup as his wife Anastasia Shubskaya keeps adjusting to going out on dates with her famous husband. She recently posted on his Instagram Stories what it’s really like to date the Great 8, showing a video of the couple eating in a fany restaurant while a fan can be seen, close to their table, sporting an Ovechkin jersey. She captioned the video:

“Typical dinner in DC.”

That’s just an hilarious reality of being married to a superstar player in the NHL like Ovi. The couple has been married since 2016 and share two sons together: Sergei and Ilya.

While it’s a well-known fact that Anastasia is very supportive of her husband’s career and love for hockey, it has to be somewhat annoying to rarely get privacy when they go out on dates. However, even if Ovechkin loves to be there for his fans, especially in Washington, he has previously, on more than one occasions, explained how grateful he is for Anastasia and how she takes care of the entire family.

“Right now all I think about is family. … She is my one, and she takes care of me, takes care of my son and gives me everything I need,” Ovechkin once told The Washington Post. “I think I can’t find a better one. If I had a chance, I would never change it.”
