Alex Ovechkin could break not one but two Wayne Gretzky records at the same time!

We are truly witnessing something remarkable. And it could get even better. Full story below:

Washington Capitals star Alex Ovechkin scored his 892nd career goal on Wednesday night in a 5-1 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes and is now three away from breaking Wayne Gretzky’s NHL record of 894.

It’s now only a matter of time before Ovechkin shatters this impressive record. The Capitals have seven games left in the regular season, and there is now another question being asked whether in fact, Ovechkin could break not one but two records held by Gretzky.

With 892 goals in 1,485 games, the Capitals superstar could break the record for goals in fewer games than The Great One, who did it in 1,487.

In order to sign his name twice in the history books, Ovechkin would need to score two goals in his next game, later tonight when the Chicago Blackhawks, one of the worst teams in the entire NHL, visit the Capitals in Washington.

Gretzky scored his 894th goal while playing for the New York Rangers against the New York Islanders at Madison Square Garden on March 29, 1999.

Ovechkin, who let’s not forget broke his leg on November 18 and returned just 40 days later, has a way of blowing expectations out of the water and I cannot wait to see if he could pull this ‘double’ record against the Blackhawks later tonight.

Can he do it?
